Exclusive Leak: What Vice and Gov.br Are Desperately Trying to Hide from You!
Ever heard of goats that survive without a single sip of fresh water for over two centuries? Yeah, me neither—until I stumbled upon this bonkers tale from a Brazilian island where sailors apparently abandoned these hardy critters long ago. Somehow, these goats not only managed to live but thrived in a place that even a cactus would think twice about calling home. Scientists are scratching their heads—and jaws—wondering if these goats are secretly sucking on seawater or if they’ve got some next-level, genetic wizardry up their sleeves. As the last of these desert superheroes were gently relocated in 2025 to help heal the island’s ecosystem, researchers are diving headfirst into what might be a goldmine of survival traits for animals facing harsher climates worldwide. Makes you wonder—what other jaw-dropping secrets is nature hiding right under our noses? LEARN MORE
More than 200 years ago, sailors are believed to have left goats on a Brazilian island that has no fresh water. The goats not only survived, they multiplied. Scientists still don’t fully know how, and a researcher said he had never seen them drink seawater.
Their survival despite the lack of known freshwater sources turned them into a scientific puzzle. Brazilian authorities and researchers began studying the animals as a potential “genetic treasure” for traits linked to adaptation to water scarcity.
In early 2025, the last 27 goats were removed alive to restore native vegetation and protect seabird nesting sites. Instead of being culled, they were transferred to research institutions for scientific studies, including genetic analysis and research into traits that could be useful for goats in arid regions.
