The Arctic Monkeys are one of the most successful British bands of all time, so it should come as no surprise that they had big name celebrities in some of their music videos.

Adolescence star Stephen Graham has been in two different Arctic Monkeys videos, whilst Paddy Considine appeared in the music video for Leave Before the Lights Come On in 2006.

Graham and Considine were known quantities at the time though, even if they weren’t celebrities as they are now. Graham had made his name from Snatch and This is England whilst Considine had starred in the Oscar nominated film In America.

When Graham appeared in the music video for When The Sun Goes Down, however, he had a co-star, Lauren Socha, long before she became a famous face on TV.

Lauren Socha is best known for appearing in Misfits, to the point where most fans of the show assume that this was her first on-screen role.

Before that though she starred in When The Sun Goes Down alongside Graham, appearing when she was just 15 years old, and also starred in a movie The Unloved alongside Robert Carlyle.

The Arctic Monkeys ended up creating a short film off the back of When the Sun Goes Down however, Scummy Man, a 16-minute movie that expanded on the story of the music video.

This revealed that Socha was playing a prostitute Nina addicted to drugs who is being controlled by George, a ‘scummy man’ played by Graham.

It was well received, with The Guardian giving it a four star review and saying: “Superb acting grimly but compulsively captures a cycle of dependency, human and narcotic.

“Set amid deserted warehouses and seedy neon-lit streets, it has harrowing but very real scenes of injection, violence and, occasionally, glimpses of humour and lives long since left behind.”

The appearance in the music video and subsequent short film clearly set Socha up well because she appeared in Misfits just a couple of years later, becoming a cult classic TV show and winning her a BAFTA for her role as Kelly.

She left the show in 2011 due in part to off-screen troubles, culminating in a four month suspended jail sentence after it was found that she had committed racially aggravated assault on a taxi driver in 2012. She’s gone on to intermittently appear in TV shows and films, including a highly acclaimed BBC comedy series The Other One created by Holly Walsh, the creator of Amandaland and Motherland.

In 2020 however it was revealed that Socha had taken on a new job working in a care home assisting elderly residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Socha posted on X: “Second week working in a Care home. Absolutely love it, and feel right at home. Lovely bunch of people also.”

The actor has gone quiet on social media since then, most recently posting about her two kids on TikTok in 2024.
