This isn’t just any showdown; it’s a rivalry packed with history, insults, and, well, smashed eyewear. So, who’s really going to come out on top when fists fly this weekend? Stick around, because things are about to get wild. LEARN MORE

This Sunday (12 July, UK time) Conor McGregor returns to the octagon for a rematch with Max Holloway.

With a long-running rivalry, the pair first met in August 2013 as featherweights. And this weekend’s UFC 329 in Las Vegas takes place at welterweight.

The drama has already started too, with the fighters having to be pulled apart during the press conference.

McGregor, who last year was found liable of sexual assault, wasted no time in attempting to wind up Holloway as they exchanged verbal jabs.

But the controversial Irishman got somewhat physical off the bat as he ripped the American MMA star’s $800 (£596) Oakley glasses off his face.

And seeing as they weren’t just regular sunnies either, there is footage of the moment from Holloway’s POV thanks to the Meta feature.

The fighter took to Instagram following the press conference as he wrote: “Man I’m going to miss those sunglasses @oakleymeta #UFC329.”

And the accompanying footage shows Holloway taking his place for the face-off before McGregor almost seems to hop, skip and jump over and get right into the Meta lenses, fists poised.

The Irish fighter then forcefully swipes the pair of Oakley Meta Vanguards off his face and smashes them to the ground.

Holloway’s Oakleys

Available in a range of different colours, Oakley Meta Vanguard starts at £499 on the Oakley site with a Universal Fit of one size fits all.

The built-in Meta AI syncs with Garmin devices and fitness apps so you can ‘track your progress, stay locked on your goals and get performance summaries right in the Meta AI app’.

And as Holloway demonstrated, the glasses feature a centred, ultra-wide 12MP camera that captures 3K moments from your POV, totally hands-free.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard also features immersive audio, Prizm lens technology, optimized vision and is sweat, dust and water resistant.

The Oakley Meta glasses aren’t just limited to the Vanguard design, with other Oakley Meta glasses starting at £399 from Vision Express.

McGregor vs Holloway

When the pair faced back in 2013, McGregor won by decision and there has been a lot of build-up to this weekend’s fight.

The Irishman said: “We’re coming in to win spectacularly, for sure. That’s it, I’m coming in for it all. This is for all the marbles. I’m coming in like a missile.

“Destruction. I’m going to destroy Max. I’m going to eliminate Max, the final opponent of mine still within the UFC ranks. All of my other opponents are gone, Max is the last one left, and on Saturday night, he gets eliminated for good.”

McGregor, who has faced charges for rape, assault, disorderly conduct and driving offences, also called Holloway’s boxing ‘abysmal’ and called him ‘evil’.

UFC 329 takes place on Saturday, 11 July at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The earliest prelim fights will begin at around 10pm BST, which in the USA equates to 5pm ET and 2pm PT.

McGregor v Holloway 2 is expected to start from 2am BST on Sunday, 12 July.

That’s 9pm ET and 6pm ET over in the States.
