Cryptic Final Words: RJ Mitte’s Co-Star Delivers Emotional Message Just Days Before Tragedy
Have you ever scrolled through your social feed and stumbled upon something that stops you cold—like a memory frozen in time, bittersweet and a little surreal? That’s exactly how I felt seeing RJ Mitte’s last days suddenly resurface, caught on camera during a hot air balloon ride, just eight days before his untimely passing at 34. It’s wild how life’s most ordinary moments can become extraordinary, especially when, in hindsight, they’re someone’s final chapter. Mitte, known to all of us as Walt Jr. from Breaking Bad, wasn’t just a fixture of one of the most iconic TV shows—he was, by all accounts, one of those rare souls who left a lingering warmth both on and off the screen. Now, as co-stars and fans rally to share stories and tributes, I can’t help but wonder: how does a simple gesture—like a hand on a shoulder in a balloon above Albuquerque—take on such colossal meaning? This article shares the heartrending tributes and the story behind that now-poignant video. LEARN MORE
RJ Mitte’s Breaking Bad co-star has shared a video of the actor taken just eight days before he died.
Yesterday (12 October), it was confirmed that Mitte had passed away at the age of 34, after being found unresponsive at his home in Texas.
Tributes have since poured in for the actor, who is best known for playing Walter White’s son, Walt Jr, on the hugely successful AMC series, with co-star Luis Moncada sharing a video of their final meeting.
The clip, which MailOnline says was filmed just eight days before Mitte passed away, shows the pair taking a hot air balloon ride together at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival.
In the clip, Moncada, who played cartel member Marco Salamanca in the series, gestures for Mitte to put his head on his shoulder before telling the actor: “Let’s hold hands, bro. Put your head on my shoulder. You’re going to be ok.”

Moncada shared the moment in a video tribute posted to his TikTok account, which also featured photos of himself and Mitte at various events over the years.
“R.I.P. lil brother,” he captioned the post.
Mitte’s death was confirmed by his representatives to MailOnline yesterday with the following statement: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte.
“RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. on AMC’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series Breaking Bad.
“Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion. Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.
“At this time, we ask people to respect the privacy of RJ Mitte’s family and close ones,” the statement concluded.
The actor is one of many Breaking Bad stars to share a heartfelt tribute to Mitte since news of his death broke.
“I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad, has died,” wrote Bryan Cranston, who played Mitte’s on-screen father, cancer-stricken chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin Walter White.
Cranston went on to explain that he’d been planning to meet up with Mitte in the weeks leading up to his death. “I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future,” he continued.

“But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on Breaking Bad dimmed… I’ll miss you, son.”
“I am heartbroken,” wrote Dean Norris, who played Mitte’s on-screen uncle. “Though RJ didn’t play my TV son, I always looked out for him as a young kid on set. He was a sweetheart of a young man and will be greatly missed.”
Meanwhile, Jesse Pinkman actor Aaron Paul shared a touching statement via The Hollywood Reporter, which read: “I am at a loss. I am heartbroken over this news. RJ, I love you, my friend. You will be missed. And to whoever happens to be reading this, please know you are loved, and you are not alone. Always remember that.”
