David Foster has spoken out after being accused of ‘snubbing’ Meghan Markle on the red carpet.
In case you missed it, last week Meghan, 45, and her husband, Prince Harry, 45, were attending the 40th anniversary gala for the David Foster Foundation in Victoria, Canada, and one ‘awkward’ moment ended up going viral.
In a clip widely shared online, Meghan and Harry could be seen standing side by side on the red carpet with their arms around each other’s waists as cameras furiously snapped away.
However, as legendary record producer and 16-time Grammy Award winner Foster, 76, approached the couple, Meghan extended her hand towards him, as if to greet him, but Foster appeared to completely ignore the gesture and walked past.
Katherine McPhee, Foster’s wife, then approached Meghan and slipped her arm around as the two couples flashed beaming smiles into the camera.

The short clip picked up plenty of attention online with one person writing: “TENSIONS ON THE RED CARPET!”
Another wrote: “David Foster completely iced them out and very publicly.”
While someone else commented: “Markle publicly snubbed by host David Foster. He refuses to greet her and ignores her reaching hand. Ouch.”
However, now Foster himself has spoken out on the moment and says the clip doesn’t tell the whole story.
He told PEOPLE: “As the host of the David Foster and Friends foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter.
“They both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone. Harry and Meghan are dear friends of mine. Anyone watching can see there was no awkward moment and certainly no snub.”
He went on to slam those who had spread the ‘hurtful lie’.
“It’s sad that certain media chose to deceive a red carpet encounter for clickbait,” he continued.
“They turned simple ‘positioning’ to get the best photo into a hurtful lie.”
So that’s that then.
The two couples share a close bond
Foster’s explanation makes a lot of sense, given that the Duke and Duchess have known the celebrity couple for years.
Foster previously revealed that helped set up a luxury ‘hideaway’ for the couple on Vancouver Island.
“I felt honoured that I was able to help Meghan there because I’m a Canadian and we’re a commonwealth country,” Foster told the Daily Mail.
“It’s important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment. I was really happy to be able to help them to find a respite just to take a little time off.
“I know that it was reinvigorating for them to spend some downtime. This is a great testament to my hometown of Victoria that they were able to go under the radar for so long.”
Meanwhile, McPhee previously claimed that her husband and the prince were ‘like father and son’.
And that her friendship with the Duchess went all the way back to their school days.
