iPhone Duo Owners Alarmed as Mysterious ‘Gap’ Threatens £2,000 Investment—What You Need to Know Now
So here’s the deal: Apple’s shiny new £1,999-and-up iPhone Duo, that clever foldable gadget hailed as the lovechild of an iPhone and iPad, has stumbled into its very own soap opera—dubbed ‘Gap-Gate’ by its users. Imagine cracking open this mini tablet only to hear your wallet’s nightmare: a loud crack after less than 20 folds, and a screen that’s seen better days. Apparently, the ‘creaseless’ screen isn’t as invincible as Apple fans hoped, with some owners finding a suspiciously visible gap between the hinges—yes, a literal peek into the phone’s messy innards. Is this just a quirk of foldable tech, or an Achilles’ heel Apple forgot to patch? And while some insist a little space is nature’s way of saving the screen’s ‘teardrop’ shape when folded, others are not buying it, calling for immediate replacements. Apple, meanwhile, is calmly telling users to check with AppleCare if their Duo’s display decides to crack the party. It’s a curious mix of engineering marvel meets user frustration—could this be the start of a foldable fiasco, or just a blip on the tech-tastic radar? Dive into the drama and see what’s really going on. LEARN MORE
iPhone Duo users have branded the recent warnings about Apple’s latest product as ‘Gap-Gate’ after being urged to check their devices for the space.
It comes after a person who owns the £1,999 and upwards iPhone Duo claimed the foldable phone made an alarming ‘crack’ after less than 20 folds.
From there, they said the screen was noticeably damaged, and had to be replaced – leading to a tech company to test the device to find out the internal problem as more people reported the same thing.
Apple’s new device has been hailed as being some sort of iPhone and iPad hybrid, leading it to become a 7.6 inch mini tablet.
However, the big screen that fans have called ‘creaseless’ has seen more than one Redditor claim their Duo either broke or looked strange after a few uses.

The iPhone Duo starts at £1,999 (256GB) and can go up to £3,199 for a 2TB version (Apple)
The one person who said their phone became damaged, from Australia, explained: “I was showing it to a friend, and as I opened it, I felt something around the internal hinge, underneath the screen.
“As I continued opening it, I heard an audible crack, and the screen broke right along the hinge.
“There were no marks or damage on the inner screen’s surface or the external hinge to suggest anything had been caught or damaged.”
What was found by YouTuber iFixIt, was that it could have a support bar problem, or, according to Notebook Check, a dirt test on the phone showed the hinge was not protected against being damaged by dirt escaping into its crevices’.
Since then, iPhone Duo have been warned about a ‘gap’, as Reddit user MICAPe9 posted a video of their new Duo and urged others to ‘check’ their phones.
They wrote alongside images showing a clear gap between the hinges: “Picked up my 256GB Night sky yesterday. Went to check the gap-gate drama and on my device the internals(?) can be seen from both sides.”

In the comments, people were quick to claim this wasn’t ‘normal’ for the phone and that it should be replaced.
One person wrote: “I’ve had mine since launch, and I’ve been pleased as punch since it came out of the box. But I can see into the gaps on mine now […] The gap on mine is such that I, too, can see the hinges. There’s a small but noticeable bow in the ‘top’ half.”
However, another remarked that people are not understanding of the phone’s structure, as they said: “Isn’t that normal? There has to be some space for the screen ‘teardrop’ to go when folded?”
Someone else agreed, noting: “It’s not a thing totally normal.”
As for the screen issue reported by those who saw the screen crack, Apple told LADbible Group: “The response to iPhone Duo from early users has been incredibly positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor.
“We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units.
“If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.”
