Long-Lost Sisters Reunite in Shocking Softball Game Twist That’s Straight Out of a Movie
Ever had one of those moments that feel plucked right out of a Hollywood flick? Picture this: On August 1, 2025, Samantha Rensvold was just minding her own business, playing softball in Belgrade, Montana, when her teammate nudged her to take a second look at the opposing team. And wouldn’t you know it — standing there was someone who looked startlingly like her. Cue the “Parent Trap” vibes! But here’s the kicker — this wasn’t some doppelgänger situation. Nope, it was her long-lost sister, Kyann Dean, unknowingly pitching right across the diamond from her. Now, considering Samantha’s adoption was closed tighter than Fort Knox, how on earth did the universe (and a softball game) conspire to reunite these two? Spoiler alert: it’s a story filled with denial, disbelief, and a whole lot of soul-shaking moments. Ready to dive into this cinematic sibling saga that’s stranger than fiction? LEARN MORE
On 1 August 2025, Samantha Rensvold was playing in a softball tournament in Belgrade, Montana, when her teammate spotted something odd on the opposing team.
Pretty much like something straight out of the Parent Trap, it became clear that there was another player who looked an awful lot like the 19-year-old.
And in a film-like twist, it turned out that it was actually her long-lost sister.
Rensvold had grown up knowing she was adopted and had eventually found out that somewhere out there, she had a younger sister. But because her adoption was closed, she couldn’t even begin to think where to start looking for her.
So, it was almost as though the stars lined up when the now 18-year-old Kyann Dean was playing against her in Montana.

“I hadn’t seen her close up yet when my teammate was pointing out to me,” Rensvold told PEOPLE, admitting that when she did have a quick look, she was ‘pretty much in denial’ about it.
“I was like, ‘There’s no way that this would happen to me right now.’”
She decided not to speak to the similar-looking player after the game out of fear for being wrong.
But when she got home, her mum persuaded her to take a look at the roster for the softball tournament, with an important detail becoming clear to the mum.
“We looked at the roster and she saw that her name was ‘Kyann,’” Rensvold explained.
She added that her mum knew that her birth mum had named her sister this.
“So my mom was like, ‘That has to be your sister. That’s not a coincidence,’” the teen recalled.
Her mum told Inside Edition: “We were just freaking out. We were in tears. It was like, ‘Oh my God’.”
The pair then ended up in the same place again when Rensvold was playing and Dean was watching with her family.
“I could hear my mom go up to Kyann’s mom and start talking about the situation, and then they figured it out,” she explained to PEOPLE.
The two mums confirmed the name of the birth mum and where they were born with it becoming clear there was ‘no way’ the pair weren’t sisters.
Without feeling any need for a DNA test, Dean and Rensvold were excited to find each other. The pair had grown up about 400 miles apart in different parts of Montana.
Rensvold only knew she had a sister after being tracked down my their biological brother. And they don’t know ‘the exact reason’ why they were separated and put up for adoption.
Rensvold, whos biological parents were 19 and 17 when she was born, assumed they were ‘too young’ and wanted them to have a ‘better life’.
“What I don’t know is why they had two more [children] and then gave them both up for adoption,” she added.
Rensvold met her biological mum when she was 12, and while she knows about the reunion, hasn’t met Dean yet.
The sisters don’t just look alike and both play softball, but share the same ‘little giggle’ and played the same volleyball position in high school.
And nowadays, Rensvold is happy to ‘put a face’ to her long-lost sister.
