What Did John Barrowman Do on a Flight That Has Everyone Talking?

What’s more aggravating than a Time Lord stuck in economy? Maybe it’s a sci-fi icon rattled by an in-flight pajama shortage! Imagine Captain Jack Harkness, used to gallivanting through space and time, suddenly having to face the true horror—no business class PJs at 30,000 feet. That’s not a temporal paradox, John, it’s just American Airlines. So, when John Barrowman, Doctor Who’s own—icon, legend—stirred the internet with his disgruntled rant about “flagship service,” social media was quick to put his grievance into perspective (and, okay, poke some fun). Ever wondered what happens when stardom meets real-world inconvenience—and the internet’s got front-row seats? Because, believe me, even the Tardis can’t travel far enough to avoid this level of backlash. LEARN MORE

Doctor Who actor John Barrowman clearly isn’t used to taking a flight that isn’t in the Tardis as he is facing significant backlash for his complaint while on board an American Airlines flight.

While you might think that the 59-year-old’s grievance might have been that this particular flight wasn’t able to travel through time and space, as it simply took him from Los Angeles to London, it was actually something far more trivial.

Most of us regular folks are usually upset with the lack of leg room and window seats we get in the economy section, or the ridiculous queues we have to go through at the airport.

But in the case of the Scottish-American actor, it was a lack of pyjamas in his business class seating area that got him hot and bothered, with many folks online describing his rant as a little out of touch.

In a now-deleted video, Barrowman said: “Hi American [Airlines] we have paid for the flagship service.

“My father and my husband behind and the tickets were very expensive and we get on thinking we’d get pyjamas with the flagship service. Then you apparently only give them to the first two rows in business class.

“What’s that all about?

“So far you’re not batting very high. Meal order wrong and then told we don’t have exactly what everyone else is getting on the flight when we all have flagship service.

“Can you explain? Thank you.”

In the comments, he added: “I find that shady and bad customer service. You’re supposed to be pushing this flagship and at the moment it’s not hitting the ball out of the park.”

Now, if you’ve paid specifically for pyjamas and you don’t get them, it’s probably fair enough to be a little frustrated, but this is the sort of complaint that he probably should have kept to himself rather than plastering on social media, as the comments weren’t really on his side.

One wrote: “The horror for John Barrowman failing to get pyjamas in business class. I hope he somehow managed to arrive safely.”

A second added: “Imagine being so disconnected from the rest of the world to behave in such an unattractive manner.”

A third posted: “Sure, by all means send customer service a question after the flight but a complaint on Twitter where 95 per cent of the users will never get to turn left on a plane is ridiculous.”

A fourth joked: “John Barrowman in heaven telling a medieval peasant who starved to death about the horrid time he didn’t get his pyjamas in first class.”

Another posted a rather sarcastic response, writing: ‘I feel so utterly sorry for John Barrowman. This is absolutely tragic. How could this happen to someone in 2026? It’s dreadful. Not being given pyjamas in business class is totally unacceptable. How on Earth was he expected to have a little sleep halfway across the Atlantic without being given pyjamas? This is so cruel. How will he ever recover from this shocking incident? Pray for John.”

LADbible has contacted Barrowman’s representatives for comment.
