Pop Icon’s Secret War: Taylor Swift Launches Lawsuit Over Bangs Copycat

Ever pondered what might spark a full-blown legal showdown in the glamorous corridors of pop music? Spoiler alert: It’s not a Grammy snub, a feuding ex, or even an ill-advised collaboration. Nope—it’s bangs. Yes, hair. Taylor Swift, queen of reinvention and, apparently, follicular copyright, has taken aim at Ella Langley, claiming her curtain bangs are less “inspired by” and more “identity theft with a flat iron.” Honestly, in a world where lawyers wrangle over melodies, it was only a matter of time before someone pointed a legal finger at split ends. Suddenly, a $100 lawsuit and a request for hat duty seem…on brand? Is this the high drama pop culture deserves—or just another case of bang envy gone wild? Brace yourself, because this is one fringe benefit you definitely didn’t see coming. LEARN MORE.

NEW YORK—Arguing that the country artist’s hairstyle was damaging the value of her own well-established signature look, pop star Taylor Swift filed a lawsuit Wednesday accusing Ella Langley of bangs infringement. “Ms. Langley’s shaggy curtain bangs are clearly a direct copy of Swift’s Lover-era hair,” Swift’s attorney Douglas Baldridge wrote in the court filing, which sought $100 in damages and an immediate change in hairstyle from Langley. “My client supports fellow musicians and has a proven track record of uplifting female voices in music, but she is also a savvy businesswoman with assets to protect. While Ms. Langley may have come up with this haircut independently, the similarities are notable enough that her hair could easily be mistaken for Ms. Swift’s trademark face-framing fringe, creating consumer confusion and diluting Ms. Swift’s brand. We request that Ms. Langley take immediate action to rectify the situation, either by shaving her head or wearing a big hat until her bangs grow out.” At press time, the suit had reportedly been settled out of court, with Langley agreeing to pay Swift and never wear red lipstick again.
