Taylor Swift skipped tonight’s Emmy Awards but she made a fun cameo in a Law & Order: SVU skit alongside Mariska Hargitay.
Swift wasn’t in attendance at tonight’s star-studded event, as she went along to cheer on her new husband Travis Kelce as his team the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Denver Broncos.
However, she didn’t miss the event entirely as she popped up in a fun pre-recorded sketch playing a detective working on the somewhat meta case of whether Swift would be attending the Emmys.
Hargitay, who is hosting tonight’s awards, appeared as her legendary Law & Order: SVU character Olivia Benson who took charge of the case.
She and her team of detectives then attempted to get to the bottom of whether Swift would pop up at the awards ceremony tonight.
Hargitay jokingly told her team that she they had to ‘think like a Swifties’ ‘because the Swifties think everything is a clue to what she’ll do next’.
The team then worked through various ‘clues’ that could point to Swift making an appearance, including the fact that DTF St. Louis has 13 nominations – Swift’s lucky number – and then linked St. Louis to her husband Kelce via St Louis and his team Kansas both being in Missouri.
Yeah, sure they sound far-fetched but let’s not forget the speculation that surrounded Swift’s nuptials earlier this year, as Swifties clawed at the smallest of clues and hints to try and work out the couple’s next move.
As the team got to grips with the clues on the big board, Swift herself made an appearance, carrying her adorable cat who is named after Hargitay’s character, playing a detective who was able to shed some new light on their theories.
Swift’s ‘rookie’ detective told the team that not everything was a sketch and said the real answer was ‘hiding in plain sight’.
By the end of the four minute sketch, the team had decided – quite accurately – that Swift wouldn’t be at the Emmys and would instead be supporting Kelce at his ‘work thing’.
“Maybe she’s going to do one of the cool pre-taped sketch things to support the host,” Swift’s character quipped.

As you might expect, fans of Swift were delighted with the skit, with one saying: “This is incredible and you know she absolutely loved this.”
A second joked: “I did not consent to them talking about me like this – Swiftie.”
While another shared: “I’m dead this hilarious.”
Others were quick to do what Swifties do best and started analysing everything Swift said in the skit to see if there were any hidden clues that might point towards new music or something more from the hit singer, particularly the part where she turned to the camera and said: “Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard. North or South.”
One asked: “So I need to analyse everything that was shown on the board! Right?”
Someone else wrote: “Don’t mind me I’m just looking at the bulletin board for additional easter eggs.”
And a third Swiftie commented: “My Swiftie senses are tingling. She’s up to something isn’t she?”
